Review @LoraLeigh_1 - Wake A Sleeping Tiger by Lora Leigh (Breeds #22)

Wake A Sleeping Tiger
Breeds #22
by Lora Leigh

Goodreads blurb:  On a moonless Navajo night, the recessed Bengal Breed known only as Judd became Cullen Maverick, grandson to one of the Chiefs of the Six Tribes of the Native Americans.

Bengal genetics, usually so fierce as to be labeled primal, was recessed so deep inside Judd that no hint of it can be found. A phenomena so rare it’s been notated only a few times. And there’s no way, it’s believed, to force those genetics free once they’ve disappeared past the genetic level.

Now, as commander of the Navajo Covert Law Enforcement Division in Window Rock, New Mexico, Cullen leads his six agents in protecting the treasures of the Navajo Tribes by ensuring they remain safely in Navajo possession.

Added to this mix is none other than the delicate Window Rock police detective determined to stick her pretty little nose in his business.

And once Cullen realized the animosity that keeps flaming between them is far more than he imagined, then the Primal Breed that’s lurked inside him comes out to play. And when that beast decides to make itself known, Cullen suddenly remembers all the reasons it was better off sleeping.

About the Author:  Lora Leigh dreams in bright, vivid images of the characters’ intent on taking over her writing life, and fights a constant battle to put them on the hard drive of her computer before they can disappear as fast as they appeared.

Lora’s family and her writing life coexist, if not in harmony, in relative peace with each other. Surrounded by a menagerie of pets, friends, and a son who keeps her quick wit engaged, Lora finds her life filled with joys, aided by her fans whose hearts remind her daily why she writes.

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

The cover is beautiful as Lora’s covers always are!

This is the 22nd book in the Breed series.  This series is for adults only due to the steamy content.  I have long loved and read this series.  I will eventually need to go back and re-read them to write reviews because I read them before I realize I should write reviews.  I have had several busy years, so I have missed a few books though I know my mom and I own them because we pretty much buy everything by Lora Leigh.

This story is Judd’s story who is now known as Cullen and his mate Chelsea.  As with all of Lora’s book, there is plenty of action, treachery, madness, and mayhem mixed in with the steamy romance.  The Breed series is how I fell in love with paranormal and shifter stories.  Lora is one of my favorite authors and her books always pull me into the story where putting it down is just not an option until I’m done.  I can’t wait to see what comes next!

I highly recommend this book to all the Breed fans, Lora’s fans, and to any shifter lover who hasn’t had the pleasure of reading her books yet!

Praise for Kate Douglas's Erotic Romance

"Sexy, tense, and complex." --Romantic Times, 4 Stars on Wolf Tales 12

"The story is so thrilling and the sex is so hot." --Romantic Times, 4 Stars on Wolf Tales 11

This book contains adult content

About the Author:  Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.

Many submissions and rejections followed.

In 1998, she published with a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.

In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. Kate has continued on as the imprint's lead author, with twenty-one novels and novellas in the full Wolf Tales series. She also has a series with Kensington's Zebra imprint, DemonSlayers, and has just completed her latest Aphrodisia series, Dream Catchers, which opened with the NightShift anthology and her novella, Dream Catcher, followed by the novels Dream Bound and Dream Unchained.

Her next series, Spirit Wild, debuts April 30, 2013 with Dark Wolf. This is a spin-off series that takes place in the Chanku world readers first met in Wolf Tales. Characters are the grown children of the first Chanku.

Kate and her husband of over forty years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

The cover is very nice!  I do think both of them should have been on the cover though or all four of them.

This is the 3rd book in the series.  I don’t think you have to read the books in order.  This series is for adults only due to the steamy content, and you should be aware there are descriptive scenes up to and including 4 people.

There was definitely intrigue and mystery galore in this book, and it was definitely enlightening.  I liked both women and both men.  This book has a lot going on and kept you engaged in the book.  This is a unique Chanku world that Kate has created.

I highly recommend to any of Kate’s fans because you know her work, and to any shifter fan who loves a unique world with multiple partners and steamy scenes!

Review @TheShannonMayer - Fangs & Fennel by Shannon Mayer (The Venom Trilogy #2)

Fangs & Fennel
The Venom Trilogy #2
by Shannon Mayer

Goodreads blurb:  Alena Budrene is not just a gifted Seattle baker—she’s also a supernatural. Having survived the virus that made her transformation necessary and outwitted an attack by a Greek hero, she’s ready to settle down and deal with the challenges of living as a “Super Duper.”

But nothing is easy for a woman who can turn into a giant snake. Threatened by her unprecedented strength, Alena’s enemies team up against her. What’s next on the menu? The duplicitous demigod Theseus—backed by a ruthless vampire gang and the power-hungry goddess Hera—is determined to lure her into a glorious, and rather public, battle to the death.

Now humans, even the ones Alena risks her life to protect, are afraid to acknowledge her existence. And when the friends who once rallied around her begin to fall prey to Theseus’s manipulative schemes, Alena realizes she must act before she loses everything. But will the price of success be too high to pay?

About the Author:  A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.

I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbor who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbors plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)

Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the center of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.

I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)

As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.

Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons.  Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.

Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  I bought my own copy!

This is the 2nd book in the series, and I highly recommend reading them in order.  This series is for adults.

This series is very unique mixing paranormal with Greek mythology.  I learned more about the world and Alena’s family, but there is still plenty of mystery to find out about.  The story line and Shannon’s writing style works so well together because you get pulled into the story and don’t even realize that you can’t put it down because you are gripped in the story.  I love books like this!  Alena is a great character who is trying to cope with who she is, but up holding her sense of self.  She doesn’t want to be a doormat, and she just wants what is fair.  I love how she jumps in to help others, and she is very loyal.  I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I highly recommend this series to any paranormal and Greek mythology fans who want a unique story to immerse themselves in!!

Review @SableSylvan - Little Red Hot Sauce by Sable Sylvan (The Feminine Mesquite #5)

Little Red Hot Sauce
 The Feminine Mesquite #5
by Sable Sylvan

Goodreads blurb:  Recipe for the best dang hot sauce in Texas:
- a sassy take-no-bullshizz BBW who can cook with the best of them…and might just be able to beat them all
- a daredevil polar bear shifter with nothing to lose
- a big pinch of BDSM...heck, toss it all in, whips, cuffs, and more!
- an unforgettable BBQ...and a summer wedding that throws one last twist at all ten Quincy Sisters and Scoville Brothers

And though she be but little, she is fierce...

Savina 'Sav' Quincy is named after the hottest pepper in the continental USA, and she does her namesake pepper justice. She is curvy, spicy, and of course, sassy and savvy. No man can tame her fire, but will the daredevil of the Scoville Polar Clan of Norwegian billionaires be able to handle her? Not a chance...but when the other four couples challenge each other to a red hot cook-off, Sav has to get in on the action. Of course, the rules state she has to work with a partner, and all her sisters are paired up, as are the Scoville Brothers…well, except for one, the only one that Savina can’t stand. The only person left to enter the contest with her is the one Scoville whose inner fire might rival hers...

An omega never forgets...

The youngest of the Scoville Brothers is Mason 'Mace' Scoville, future omega of the Scoville Polar Clan. He may have been born last, but he's going to come in first in the first annual Quincy-Scoville Cook-Off. That's a polar promise. He has nothing to lose, so there is no way he is going to lose...even if he has to work with the youngest Quincy Sister, who has more spice, sass, and curves than the other sisters combined! Mace tells himself that he’s all business and is just doing this to win first prize, but he can’t lie to his inner bear. Mace might be trying to resist her feminine mystique but his shift has other intentions...

Are these two firebrands destined for first place, and more importantly, are they fated mates...or will they get burned?

Sav can’t stand Mace’s brash attitude…but she can’t resist his machismo or the power of his shift. Mace can’t take Sav’s sass…but he’ll have to if he wants a chance to try on her curves for size. Will a fifth couple be joining in the Quincy-Scoville wedding at the end of the summer, or are Sav and Mace destined to be always the bridesmaid and groomsman, never the bride and groom? What secrets will be revealed at the wedding? There’s only one way to find out, and it’s in the spiciest book yet, in the fifth chapter of the spiciest Sable Sylvan fairy tale ever told, the story of a hot sauce company that’ll make you so feel so hot, you’ll be reaching for a glass of ice cold sweet tea, the story of…The Feminine Mesquite

The Feminine Mesquite is a five book series featuring the five curvy Quincy Sisters and the five alpha male polar bear shifters who are the heirs to the Scoville fortune. Can the ten heirs learn to get along, and will they find comfort in each other’s arms...or in each other’s beds? Each book is at least 25,000 words long, comprising a full-length novella. There are no cliffhangers, and every book ends with a guaranteed happily ever after (after all, these are fairy tales). These fairy tale romances feature everything you love from a bear shifter romance. Each book is a standalone, however, there is an overarching story. Don’t fret: if you haven’t read preceding book in the series, a short recap will be included in the first part of each book to get you up to speed...and you’ll want to read all five books because the last book’s epilogue features --, wait, why am I telling you? You’re going to need to read them all and find out for yourself!

Look for all five books in this series on Amazon, all $0.99 or FREE via Kindle Unlimited (KU). “The Cinderella Cook-Off”, “Beauty And The BBQ”, “Spicy Beauty”, “The Matchstick Grill”, and “Little Red Hot Sauce” all have hot sauces and teas for making iced sweet tea that tie into the books, which you can find on www.shopsablesylvan.com

About the Author:  The only thing I love more than reading hot paranormal romances is writing down my fantasies and sharing them with readers like you. My heroes are strong alpha male bear shifters who can be grizzly and gruff at times...but when it comes to their fated mates, they're absolute teddy bears. My curvy heroines are strong, sassy women, which is why the werebear men who love them will do anything for their love.

All my books are $0.99, at least full length novella length, feature an HEA, and are exclusively available on Amazon.com! They are all FREE via Kindle Unlimited!

This is the 5th and finale book in this series!  I highly recommend reading all the books in order because it makes the character interactions so much richer, and this is the finale so to speak with the wedding and other surprises.

Sav and Mace are definitely quite the pair.  They are like kids in grade school who don’t know how to tell the other one how much they like the other, so they resort to pranks and meanness of sorts.  I loved everything about this book and all the surprises along the way.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves Sable’s world as well as any bear shifter lovers!  I can’t wait to see what Sable cooks up next!!

Review @WolfTales - Dark Spirit by Kate Douglas (Spirit Wild #2)

Dark Spirit
Spirit Wild #2
by Kate Douglas

Goodreads blurb:  Romy Sarika has spent much of her life suffering at the hands of a sadistic cult leader. Twenty years earlier she watched him kill her mother, and now she awaits the same fate. But when the self-proclaimed prophet orders Romy killed, the wolf part of her rises up and for the first time she shifts. Managing to save herself, she leaves death and chaos in her wake.

Alone in the woods and badly injured, Romy is found by Jace Wolf and Gabe Cheval, two powerful and striking Chanku who help her heal and simultaneously unleash sensual desires in her that are as new and intense as her wolf-like abilities. But just as Romy’s opening herself to this new erotic world and the passionate connections she’s forming with both men, danger is closing in.

Bent on revenge and driven by bloodlust, cult members are pursuing the trio. Discovery could mean not just Romy’s death but destruction of the Chanku way of life. With their lives at stake and the Chanku race in jeopardy, the three must fight to save themselves and the future of their proud race.

The cover is very beautiful!!  I love when covers have the beast in both forms and such lovely beasts at that!!!

This is the 2nd book in the series and is for adults only due to the violence, discussion of rape, incest, and steamy scenes not involving the above mentioned reprehensible acts.

This book has me front the start, and I didn’t want to put it down.  Romy is an amazing character that you can definitely get behind and support.  Her strength through all she has endured shines through, and she is such an amazing female lead.  Loved her from the start even if it started with my tears!  This book is definitely an emotional rollercoaster, and it was an amazing journey.  Jace and Gabe are wonderful men who are full of life, love, and protective behaviors.  Wolf is also a pretty awesome addition to the traveling pack.  I was definitely not ready for the book to end, but I hope to hear more of these characters throughout the rest of the series.

I highly recommend this book to all shifter lovers especially if you like a unique Chanku take on shifters!  You will have to read to know what I mean!

Review @Lori_Brighton - Make Me a Match by Lori Brighton (The Matchmaker #1)

Make Me a Match
The Matchmaker #1
by Lori Brighton

Goodreads blurb:  Teenager Emma Watts doesn’t believe in true love. After all, she’s worked for two years in her family’s P.I. business catching cheating husband’s in the act. Then Owen Emerson arrives (while she’s in the middle of a stakeout, no less) claiming Emma has inherited a deceased aunt’s ability to supernaturally match soul-mates. Emma wants nothing to do with her aunt’s powers, nor with the frustrating and perfectly handsome Owen Emerson. Too bad she’s stuck with both for the rest of her life.

Owen Emerson is a Protector, a person fated to protect Matchmakers for eternity. A guy who does things by the book, Owen figures he’ll rationally explain to Emma her newfound abilities and they can have the professional relationship he’d had with her much older aunt. But as he soon finds out Emma Watts is anything but professional. Fortunately, when she has her first vision matching two friends she has no alternative but to believe Owen’s claims. But Owen isn’t the only one interested in Emma. When the supernatural world discovers how to exploit Emma’s matchmaking abilities for their own, she has no choice but to trust the man who holds her life, and her heart, in his hands.

About the Author:  As a child, thoughts of far-off places and adventure consistently kept Lori up late at night. After graduating high school, she came to the conclusion that there was no better way to seek adventure and nourish her love of history than to become an archaeologist. She went on to receive a degree in anthropology, but digging in the dirt during humid Midwestern summers wasn’t exactly as fun as she thought it would be.

Instead, she went to work in an air conditioned museum where she spent her days surrounded by creepy Victorian animal mounts. Still, she wasn’t satisfied.

Deciding the people in her imagination were slightly more exciting than the dead things in a museum basement, she set out to write her first romance novel. That book was soundly rejected. As was the next. Years went by and she began to wonder if she’d ever see her dream fulfilled. Until one day she came up with an idea for a book that brought together her love of history and adventure: a book now titled Wild Heart. Since Wild Heart's release, Lori has written Historical Romance, Contemporary Paranormal Romance and Young Adult.

Lori currently resides in the Southern U.S., where she juggles her time between a husband, a son, a golden retriever, a cat and the many, many people in her imagination.

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!

The cover is interesting though I doesn’t really represent Emma.  This is the first book in this series, and it is definitely left in a place that you expect another book.

This is my first book by Lori that I’ve read though I do own most of The Mind Readers series to read in the future.  I like Lori’s writing style and the premise of this book.  It was slow in parts, but this happens when I start a new series sometimes.  I think it is set up at a good spot for the next book.

Emma is independent and questions everything which I like because you should never just accept what a stranger tells you.  Owen is another story.  I’m annoyed that he misled Emma, but he does sort of redeem himself.  I’m interested in seeing what becomes of the pair if book 2 comes out.  I have no idea when this might happen though.

People who like YA Paranormal Romance will like reading this book!

The cover is what attracted me to the book as well as the blurb.  Life distracted me for a while, but I’m trying to get the books read that I promised I would.

This is the 2nd book in the series, but in the timeline of events this book happens before book 1.  I think you can read these books in either order.  This book is for adults only due to the content and steamy scenes.

I connect with this book more, but I’m not sure if it is because I seem to connect with author’s more after I get in the groove of their writing or because I loved Vivian!  I love her spunk and attitude!  I thought Jason was a jerk on several occasions, but he grows on you.  I understand him more than I did in book 1, but boy does pack life complicate things.

I don’t know that I understand everything in this world yet, but I know I like it!  I definitely like Jennifer’s work and will get more when I can.

I highly recommend to paranormal fans especially if you love werewolves, magic, mystery, and more!

***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!  Yes, I got a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book!  I also bought my own copy!!

This is the 2nd book in the series, but when I started reading it I didn’t know.  You do not have to read them in order, but I bet it would have been better if I did.  I do plan to go back and read book 1.  This is for adults only due to the steamy content.

Poppy is definitely intriguing, and I love how she sticks up for her friends and protects them.  It makes me curious about the people I hear about that backpack around Europe.  Tristan is way too buttoned up, and I guess sort of tense.  Poppy has a good effect on him.  I liked reading their story, but I think I would understand more if I had read book 1.

I recommend this book to all the tiger shifter fans who want an out of country experience!
