Review @JessieDauthor - The Dragon's Heart by Jessie Donovan (Lochguard Highland Dragons #3)

The Dragon’s Heart
Lochguard Highland Dragons #3
by Jessie Donovan

Goodreads blurb:  LOCHGUARD HIGHLAND DRAGONS BOOK 3
Lorna MacKenzie lost her mate nearly thirty years ago. Dedicating her life to her children, she brushed off the thought of ever finding love again. After all, Jamie MacKenzie had been her true mate. Who could ever replace him?

Ross Anderson came to Lochguard to be near his daughter and fight his cancer. Over the last six months, he's become close to one particular dragonwoman. However, he doesn't want to pursue her as a dying man. But now that his cancer is gone, Ross is determined to win Lorna's heart.

As the pair fight their growing attraction to one another, the only question is will Lorna open up to Ross or forever hold on to the memory of her first love?

About the Author:  Jessie Donovan wrote her first story at age five, and after discovering the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey in junior high, realized that people actually wanted to read stories like those floating around inside her head. From there on out, she was determined to tap into her over-active imagination and write a book someday.

After living abroad for five years and earning degrees in Japanese, Anthropology, and Secondary Education, she buckled down and finally wrote her first full-length book. While that story will never see the light of day, it laid the world-building groundwork of what would become her debut paranormal romance, Blaze of Secrets.

Jessie loves to interact with readers. When not reading or traipsing around some foreign country on a shoestring, can often be found on Facebook and Twitter.

The one thing you'll find in all of Jessie's stories are strong, capable women and the people who love them.

The cover is beautiful and inspirational.

This is the 3rd book in this spin off series.  It is for adults only due to the steamy scenes.  While this book could be a stand-alone, I definitely advise against it.  I have yet to read a book in this series that I love, and you would be doing yourself a disservice to not read them all and in the order they were written for both series.  The world is so much richer and you will love all the characters you meet along the way….well except maybe the bad guys.

This book did not have the action most of Jessie’s books have because it was focused on the finding love after the loss of a mate and insecurities of not being young.  It was a touching story and yes made me tear up happy tears several times.  I’m a sap.  I loved every moment of it.  Sometimes Jessie makes love looks easy.  It can get someone dreaming…lol

I highly recommend all of Jessie’s dragon shifter books (I’ve read and loved them all, and I do own most of them too!)  I think there are only 3 or 4 books in another series that I haven’t read yet, but I do own them :)  I can’t wait to read more of Jessie’s dragons….hopefully sooner rather than later!

The cover is a work of art!  Bastien is looking good!

This is the 4th book in the series!  It is novella length I believe.  It is for adults only due to the very steamy content.  I know every time I pick of a book in this series that it will be humorous and sexy and fun!  I love Tamara’s sense of humor that she infuses into her books!  I love this series, and it is a go to for a great entertaining read!   While you can read this book as a stand-alone, I do not recommend it.  You will miss the background and how everything fits together to give you so much more when you read them all in order.

This is Alice’s and Bastien’s story.  She’s been running from him for so long that I didn’t think we’d ever get the story!  Now that I’ve read it, it makes sense!  I don’t want to give anything away, but that you do not want to miss this story.  I loved every minute!  We have new bad guys on the scene as well as old.  I wonder if we will see more of the BND in the future.

I highly recommend this series to any shifter lover who loves humor mixed in to make it such a fun and great read!

Review @tyrabbisaurus - The Trouble with Antlers by A.J. Culey (Shifter High Season #1, Episode #1)

The Trouble with Antlers
Shifter High
Season #1, Episode #1
by A.J. Culey

Goodreads blurb:  In a high school full of shifters, it's the one inquisitive human who poses the biggest threat.

When a human is the only applicant for town veterinarian and moves to Shifterville with his teenaged daughter, Amelia, the town residents conspire to keep the humans in their midst from discovering their secret. If only they can keep Melvin away from Amelia.

Melvin Moose has a problem. Anytime a girl gets too close, his antlers go on walkabout, popping out of his human head at the most inopportune moments. As if that weren’t bad enough, a human girl just enrolled at his school, and if she catches sight of his unruly rack, it’s all over for Shifterville.

Warning: This book contains typical teen language, which does include the occasional swear word. It is also full of rampant, teen hormones and the subsequent fallout.

This is season 1, episode 1 of the Shifter High series.

About the Author:  A.J. Culey is a teacher, world traveler and writer. She is a fan of books, bunnies and cats (and also blue hair, but that's another story).

The cover is quite amusing, and it is definitely what attracted me to investigate the book.

When I asked the author if she considered this a serial, this is what she told me, “Shifter High series is a serial in the sense that there’s an overarching plot for each season, which won’t be fully resolved until the end of that season. However, each individual episode has its own plot and can work as a stand-alone novella.”  This can definitely be read by teens.

This book had me laughing at everything that was happening in this high school.  I don’t want to give anything away, but I was definitely entertained and can’t wait to read more of this series.  I liked the author’s writing it was easy to be pulled into the high school drama and feel for the characters even if you chuckled along the way.

I recommend this to anyone who loves shifter stories especially when it is combined with teenage chaos.  I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This is the 2nd companion novel to the Cassie Scot series.  I really love this series.  While you can pick up this book and read it without any trouble, the world experience will be so much more and you will understand references more if you read them all in order.

You never really got much about Kaitlin in the series.  This is a wonderful edition to this world.  It was nice to finally get Kaitlin’s story, but also to learn more about Matthew.

This book does on some subjects that some be sensitive with regarding to sexual abuse.  I’d say this book is new adult.  I loved being immersed into this magical world.  I hope there is more to come because I want to know more about the White Guard and what happens next.

If you loved Cassie Scot, you definitely don’t want to miss reading this book!

About the Authors:
Kate Douglas:  Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.

Many submissions and rejections followed.

In 1998, she published with a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.

In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. Kate has continued on as the imprint's lead author, with twenty-one novels and novellas in the full Wolf Tales series. She also has a series with Kensington's Zebra imprint, DemonSlayers, and has just completed her latest Aphrodisia series, Dream Catchers, which opened with the NightShift anthology and her novella, Dream Catcher, followed by the novels Dream Bound and Dream Unchained.

Her next series, Spirit Wild, debuts April 30, 2013 with Dark Wolf. This is a spin-off series that takes place in the Chanku world readers first met in Wolf Tales. Characters are the grown children of the first Chanku.

Kate and her husband of over forty years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

Connect with Kate:

A.C. Arthur:  Artist C. Arthur was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where she currently resides with her husband and three children. An active imagination and a love for reading encouraged her to begin writing in high school and she hasn’t stopped since.

Working in the legal field for almost thirteen years now she’s seen lots of horrific things and longs for the safe haven reading a romance novel brings. Her debut novel Object of His Desire was written when a picture of an Italian villa sparked the idea of an African-American/Italian hero. Determined to bring a new edge to romance, she continues to develop intriguing plots, sensual love scenes, racy characters and fresh dialogue—thus keeping the readers on their toes!

During the course of her writing career Artist has won the YOUnity Guild’s Best New Drama and Romance Author Award in 2005/06; been nominated 3 years straight for EMMA Awards, with the fourth time being a charm she took home the 2007 EMMA Award for Favorite Romantic Suspense; and has also received her first Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award Nomination for Best African American Romance. She is represented by Christine Witthohn at Book Cents Literary Agency, LLC.

This book contains two novellas, one by each author, and it is the first volume.  They are written for adults only due the content.

I loved Feral Passions from the beginning.  I think it was easy to connect with the characters especially since they were readers of paranormal romance.  I loved the characters and especially this idea of Feral Passions which is like a relaxation resort inside a wolf preserve.  It was definitely a feel good story.  I usually like a lot more action, but everything clicked that I didn’t need it in this story with the drama and characters just working.

In The Alpha’s Woman, it took me a while to get into the book.  I thought I didn’t like it, but I think it is because Blaez is a jerk.  As you learn more about him, he grows on you as you start to understand.  I really loved Kira’s fire.  I did like this story, and there is more action and drama in this story.

I recommend this book to my wolf shifter friends because you will enjoy it :)

Review @valeromance -Dark Panther by Catherine Vale

Dark Panther
by Catherine Vale

Goodreads blurb:  When the curvy waitress, Leia Jacobs, comes face-to-face with the insanely gorgeous stranger in the bookshop, her world is suddenly turned upside down, and everything she thought she knew about herself turns out to be complete bullshit.

She isn't such a tough girl with the hard exterior, after all. At least not in the presence of Nathan Archer (aka: Mister Perfect), but there is something about this guy that spells danger, something about him that gives Leia the impression that she should run away as fast as she can. Except her heart is telling her something very different, and she finds herself falling hard for the mysterious man with the dark past.

But there's trouble brewing in paradise when Nathan tells her what he really is, and what he really wants. He's an edgy bad-boy with a taste for bondage. He's also a man that never takes no for an answer.

Note To Readers: This is a sexy shapeshifter BDSM story of a panther and his wicked desire for a BBW chick who doesn't go down easily. If you are offended by erotic romance stories where the hero likes to tie his woman up and make her his, this is probably not the book for you. For those who love to read about hot sex, curvy women and possessive men, enjoy!

About the Author:  Catherine Vale has been writing fiction for as long as she can remember, but it wasn’t until she wrote her very first paranormal romance story that she found herself hooked on the raw, edgy love affair of shifters, vampires and other dominant alpha males and the captivating women that love them.

Catherine Vale writes both contemporary and paranormal romance for readers who are willing to take a walk on the wild side of love.  Her stories always include powerful alpha males, smart and sassy heroines and a happily-ever-after (even if she often put her characters through hell to get there!)

***Received the ebook for an honest review, but I owned it before I read it

The cover is my favorite type because it has both man and beast!

This is a standalone that is about 145 pages.  I definitely enjoyed reading it.  I read this over a month ago, but I had some life complications and couldn’t get my review done until now.  This was an interesting read because I didn’t know about this knot tying stuff.  It is always interesting to read a book and learn about new things especially ones you’ve never had a thought about before.

Leia is probably the envy of every bookworm I’ve ever met….going to a bookstore to meet a sexy man, and they’re both interested in each other.  There is plenty of learning, drama, fighting, and steamy scenes that is for adults only.

I recommend this book to those of us who are already fans of Catherine’s work as well as to all my shifter lover book friends.  I always enjoy Catherine’s work….hmmm which of her books will I read next!!!

Review @DBReynoldsWrite @Bellebooks - Compelled by D.B. Reynolds (Vampires in America #10.5)

Compelled
Vampires in America #10.5
by D.B. Reynolds

Goodreads blurb:  VAMPIRE . . . Raphael is a power like the world has never seen, the force behind the first ever alliance of North American lords, Cyn’s mate, lover, master.

SORCERER . . . Nick Katsaros, deceptively charming, ancient and commanding, driven by vengeance and a devastating loss, Cyn’s friend and one-time lover.

HUMAN . . . Cynthia “Cyn” Leighton, beautiful, sexy, and smart, the woman both men desire.

It was only a few months ago that Raphael lay helpless and dying, taken by treachery, while Cyn fought to save him. Unexpectedly, it was Nick who provided the key to his freedom. In exchange, he secured a promise that they would help him find and recover the same magical artifact that had been used to imprison Raphael. But when he calls on them to keep that promise, it will be Cyn who pays the price.

Torn between the two powerful men, struggling to keep them from killing each other, she undertakes a desperate search that will find her fighting for her life against a madman who wants her for himself.

About the Author:  D.B. Reynolds is the award-winning author of the popular Vampires in America series, as well as other paranormal fiction. This is a novella in the Vampires in America series.  It falls after Christian in the series.  I highly recommend reading everything in order including all the novellas and short stories.  Everything clicks together much more cohesively and is just awesome when you aren’t missing details.  I don’t know about you, but I hate when something is mentioned in a book that happened and I don’t know what happened.  Details are important to me, and D.B. Reynolds books are always action packed and full of well everything a vampire loving paranormal addict wants.

This story picks up the search for the handcuffs.  Raphael and Nick use the word vampire and sorcerer like they are cussing at each other.  The tension and hate is extreme at times.  Cyn is fabulous as always.  I love her spirit and passion for everything.

I highly recommend everything because I think I’ve read almost everything there is to read by her and have yet to find something I didn’t thoroughly enjoy and love.  I can’t wait to start the new series where is a spin-off about Nick’s stone friends.
