Review @JordannaBrodsky - The Immortals by Jordanna Max Brodsky (Olympus Bound #1)

The Immortals
Olympus Bound #1
by Jordanna Max Brodsky

Goodreads blurb:  MANHATTAN HAS MANY SECRETS.
SOME ARE OLDER THAN THE CITY ITSELF.

Manhattan.
The city sleeps. Selene DiSilva walks her dog along the banks of the Hudson. She is alone-just the way she likes it. She doesn't believe in friends, and she doesn't speak to her family. Most of them are simply too dangerous.

Murders.
In the predawn calm, Selene finds the body of a young woman washed ashore, gruesomely mutilated and wreathed in laurel. Her ancient rage returns. And so does the memory of a promise she made long ago. To protect the innocent-and to punish those who stand in her way.

Gods.
With the NYPD out of its depth, Selene vows to hunt the killer on her own. But when classics professor Theo Schultz decodes the ancient myth behind the crime, the solitary Huntress finds herself working with a man who's her opposite in every way. Together, they face a long-forgotten cult that lies behind a string of murders, and they'll need help from the one source Selene distrusts most of all: the city's other Immortals.

Much like Lev Grossman's The Magicians spoke to a generation of adults who grew up with Harry Potter, THE IMMORTALS will enchant anyone who loved American Gods or Percy Jackson.

About the Author:  Jordanna Max Brodsky hails from Virginia, where she made it through a science and technology high school by pretending it was a theater conservatory. She holds a degree in History and Literature from Harvard University. She lives in Manhattan with her husband, where she is working on the second book in the Olympus Bound trilogy. She often sees goddesses in Central Park and wishes she were one.

My Thoughts - 3 out of 5 Unicorns - I liked it!!!

***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review

The cover is beautiful and sort of haunting at the same time.

This is the first book in the series and the first book by the author.  It is based on Greek mythology which is what drew me to the book :)

I liked this book, and I think the series will get better.  This book for me had a lot of slow parts, but this happens when I am reading a new series when it is building a new world.  I will definitely watch for the next book and keep an eye on this new author.

Selene is interesting because you have a unique perspective on getting to know Artemis in this book and other Greek gods who live modern times.  Theo is a college professor and definitely interesting and tends to get himself into trouble.  This is like a murder mystery Greek style.  It will be interesting to see where this series goes next.

I recommend this book to mythology lovers who love a murder mystery.
