Review @BKMcMichael - The Day Human King by B. Kristin McMichael (Day Human Trilogy #2)

The Day Human King
The Day Human Trilogy #2
by B. Kristin McMichael

Goodreads blurb:  Book Two of The Day Human Trilogy
Book Five in The Night Human World
An expansion of The Blue Eyes Trilogy

After he inherited the power of the late sidhe king, Devin thought the battle to protect Nessa and proceed with her coronation was over. Everyone feared him, and he had the power to do anything in the sidhe world. He was wrong. As problem after problem arises, Nessa and Devin discover that the path to the throne isn’t as simple as they thought. Formalities must be adhered to, preparations must be made, and between all of that, Devin and Nessa must decide what to do with an obviously pregnant Fiona, who won’t name the father of her child. To make matters worse, the elite sidhe are still assassinating each other. No one in the palace is safe. Who is behind the latest deaths, and can the coronation actually occur with all of the drama going on? Devin and Nessa’s road to power might be cut short if they can’t find the answers.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 unicorns - I loved it!

The cover is another work of art, and I get Devin and the swords on the cover.  But I have not figured out what’s with the two girls and what it is supposed to represent.

This is the 2nd book in the spin-off trilogy The Day Human Trilogy.  I bought this book this week because I had to read it :) Even though you do not have to read them in order, I would recommend it because you would miss out on character dynamics if you have not, and I especially recommend starting with the first trilogy The Blue Eyes because some of the characters from that trilogy join us in this book :)

Okay I loved this book except Chapter 1.  Chapter 1 just didn’t seem like it was part of the book, but I can’t quite figure out why and that’s all I’m going to say about it :)

Devin and his protective side show a mile wide in this book, but this is not surprising to me because he has always been this way.  Nessa really is clueless when it comes to her people and knowledge of them.  I think Devin learns more about how they think and work faster than Nessa, but maybe that’s what it takes an outsider’s view point.  They get to know each other better and what each other’s motivations are.  Turner comes back to entertain us with his word play with Devin.  I really love the two of them together because you can see they are best friends.  Mori also helps out Devin with his skills.

BK’s writing came alive in my imagination while I read which helped me to love this story.  Of course, I wasn’t happy at the end and wanted to slap Nessa, but I have to wait for the next book to see what happens next.  BK write fast ;)

I highly recommend both series to YA paranormal fans who like action, drama, and treachery with a great story.  I love this unique Night Human world that BK has created and hope it will continue even further after this trilogy :)  My classroom bookshelf is calling for this book too ;)

Review @AnnGimpel - Red Dawn by Ann Gimpel

Red Dawn
by Ann Gimpel

Goodreads blurb:  A deliciously different dark, erotic fantasy.

Llyr is a whale shifter with a whale-sized problem. The seas are dying, poisoned by heavy metal contamination and barrels of trash. In a bold and desperate move, he and his mate Galatea, the Sea Witch, hatch up magic to allow him to spend as long as he needs to on land.

Llyr masquerades as a marine biologist and signs on with a firm whose mission is to save the oceans, but his boss has been possessed by ancient evil that wants the whales dead. Desperate, Llyr returns to the sea for answers, but only finds more problems. Staring into the maw of his own destruction brands him, changes him irrevocably, and takes his choices away, but he can’t give up.

Riding a fine edge between redemption and ruin, Llyr discovers his greatest fear may well save his people.

About the Author:  Ann Gimpel is a national bestselling fantasy and romance author. She's also a clinical psychologist with a Jungian bent. Avocations include mountaineering, skiing, wilderness photography and, of course, writing. A lifelong aficionado of the unusual, she began writing speculative fiction a few years ago. Since then her short fiction has appeared in a number of webzines and anthologies. Her longer books run the gamut from urban fantasy to paranormal romance. She’s published 25 books to date, with several more contracted for 2014 and beyond.

A husband, grown children, grandchildren and three wolf hybrids round out her family.

***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review, but I do own a copy in the bundled set Paranormally Yours

The cover definitely attracts the eye, but I wish it had more orca in it :)

This is definitely for adults only, and it is novella length at about 80 pages.  This has very steamy scenes involving magic and multiple partners.  This story was also in the Paranormally Yours bundle if you picked up that set.

This is the first time I have read anything by Ann, and I enjoyed it.  Her scenes are very steamy and well written :)  This is also the first time I’ve read a story with whale (Orca) shifters.  Shifters are people (humans) who turn into another form in this instance a whale.  There was some action, and the story idea is very creative, but parts felt very rushed to me with regard to his job and saving the ocean and the bad guy.  Ann’s writing is descriptive and easy to read.  I love the fun lovin’ Nereids that are playful sea nymphs.  I think I need to read more ocean shifter stuff to decide if I really like it or I prefer my shifters on land :)

I’m definitely going to look into more books by Ann especially her Company Store series because it really intrigues me, and they are longer stories :)

I recommend this story to those who enjoy multiple partner shifter stories and want something unique and oceanic :)

About the Author:  V.A.Dold is the bestselling author of the Le Beau Brothers series, New Orleans wolf shifter novels. A graduate of Saint Cloud University, she majored in marketing. Prior to becoming a full time writer, she was a publicist to the authors, owning ARC Author & Reader Con's. Still is.

A Minnesota native with her heart lost to Louisiana, she has a penchant for titillating tales featuring sexy men and strong women. When she's not writing, she's probably taking in a movie, reading or traveling.

Her earliest reading memories are from grade school. She had a major fixation with horses, and the Black Stallion was a favorite. Then junior high came along and teenage hormones kicked in. It became all about the Harlequin Romances. She has been hooked on romances ever since.

Thomas James has his hands full as the shifter king's head of security. He certainly wasn’t looking for a girlfriend during the first annual shifter gathering. He had the king and queen to protect, not skirts to chase.

Review @BKMcMichael - The Day Human Prince by B. Kristin McMichael (Day Human Trilogy #1)

The Day Human Prince
The Day Human Trilogy #1
by B. Kristin McMichael

Goodreads blurb:  Devin Alexander grew up as the only day human in a world surrounded by night humans who drank blood, sometimes his blood. He spent his life training toward one goal: the protection of one of those blood drinkers, Arianna Grace. But what is he supposed to do when the blue-eyed girl of the legends doesn’t need him anymore? What does his life mean then? How is a guy supposed to move on when the girl he has yearned over for a decade has chosen someone else?

Before he can even start to figure out his new life without Arianna, Devin has to deal with another problem. He needs to take care of some unfinished business with a night human he has known for less than a month, but with whom he is magically bound.

Vanessa McKinny has promised that she knows a way to undo the spell she placed on Devin to save his life. Devin would do anything to break the bond to be free of her, even if it means traveling to the sidhe village, a place inhabited by a race of night humans that has not had a day human visitor in more than a hundred years. If he doesn’t want to get stuck, he must work with Nessa to find a way to break the bond. Only then can Devin have time to get back to finding his new goal in life, unless he discovers that his path lies with the sidhe.

The cover is beautiful and looks magical :)  I love it!!!

This is the first book of The Day Human trilogy, and it picks up where The Blue Eyes Trilogy left off with Devin.  I love that I didn’t have to lose the world created by BK when The Blue Eyes Trilogy concluded because it really is a wonderful and unique world which I wouldn’t want to lose :)

When I started reading this adventure, I did not like how Nessie was portrayed in the car.  I had really grown to like her already, so I put off a little at the start.  After the attack, the book seemed to align more like who I recognized her to be, so I was okay.  Of course Devin is amazing as always, but he has always been unique and broody while protecting those who need it :)  I have always loved his morals and values that he portrays though I’m hoping he will get his happily ever after now that Arianna has gotten hers :)

BK’s writing is very similar to The Blue Eyes Trilogy,  and I think if you loved those, you will want to read this spin-off series!  Her descriptions make the story leap off the pages into your imagination.  I wish I could make magic like she does with her words.  I can’t wait to read the next book which I happen to already have bought :)

I recommend this series to those who are already BK’s fans, Devin’s fans, and of course any paranormal fan who has read The Blue Eyes trilogy should definitely start there first because it is where I loved Devin first :)  Of course I would love to add this to my classroom library too!!!

Audiobook Review @rayadverb @RidleyPearson - Peter and the Sword of Mercy by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson

Peter and the Sword of Mercy
Peter and the Starcatchers #4
by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson

Goodreads blurb:  The year is 1901--it's been twenty-three years since Peter and the Lost Boys returned from Rundoon. Since then, nobody on the island has grown a day older, and the Lost Boys continue their friendship with the Mollusk tribe, and their rivalry with Captain Hook. Meanwhile in London, Molly has married George Darling and is raising three children: Wendy, Michael, and John. One night a visitor appears at her door; it's James, one of Peter's original Lost Boys. He is now working for Scotland Yard and suspects that the heir to England's throne, Prince Albert Edward, is under the influence of shadow creatures. These shadow creatures are determined to find a secret cache of startstuff which fell to London many centuries ago. The starstuff is hidden in an underground vault which has only one key: the Sword of Mercy, a legendary weapon kept with the Crown Jewels. Molly is determined to help, but when she suddenly goes missing, it is up to her eleven-year-old daughter, Wendy, to keep the starstuff out of the Others' clutches. She has heard her mother's stories of a flying boy named Peter Pan, and he may be her only hope in saving the world from a shadowy doom...

About the Authors:

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I liked it!!!

***Borrowed the audiobook CD’s from the library

The cover is definitely Peter Pan-ish and makes you think of magical adventures.

This is the 4th book in the series, and while I loved listening to it with my son, it was not my favorite.  I think I really liked Molly and Peter together, so it was weird having it be her daughter…at least for me.

It is another fantastical adventure for Peter and he makes some new friends and reunites with some old friends both figuratively and literally.  This book had more darkness and pain making it a lot darker than the first 3 books.  I definitely think this is for older middle to high school students with the torture aspect of this book.

Peter seemed like he got younger and more selfish in this book than the invincible boy who wouldn’t let anything stop him which might be why this one wasn’t my favorite and had my son looking at me asking Why??

We both really wanted to listen to the 5th book, but the library does not have it, so I’m not sure if or when we will get to listen to it, so after months of listening to this series, we will have to find a new series now :)

I recommend this story to those who liked that rest of the series and don’t mind when characters change :)

**Originally gifted a copy, but I have bought the whole series :)

The cover is just beautiful and I really love all the covers for this series :)  I really want to add these to my classroom library to share with my students….someday when I’m independently wealthy and can afford to do it with all the book I’d love to share with them.

This is the third book in the YA trilogy The Blue Eyes.  I read the first two books back in 2013.  While you probably do not have to read the books in order, I recommend you do because you will miss out on the relationships built and becoming invested in the characters lives :)

I’m not sure why I waited so long to read this one because I really do love this series.  It took me a chapter or two to remember my characters and remember what was going on, but once I did I didn’t want to put it down.  Of course, I had a few things that disrupted my plan of no interruptions while reading :)  but kids do that ;)

Arianna is a typical high school girl who is unsure of herself at times, but she shows such fierce determination to be free and loyalty and love to her friends and family.  She also has more compassion than most girls her own age which makes me admire her all the more :)  I really do love all her keepers and family too!!

B. Kristin’s style of writing is an easy read, and I had no problems imagining my way through her creative and awesome world.  I am amazed at how she wove all sorts of Night Humans into her world and such a complex plot where all the Night Humans are concerned.  I am ecstatic that this world continues on in another series Day Human which I will definitely be reading :)

I highly recommend this series to YA paranormal fans.

New Release Review - Fur for Her by Claudia M. Farwell (Fur Real Shifter Escorts #1)

Fur for Her
Fur Real Shifter Escorts #1
by Claudia M. Farwell

Goodreads blurb:  After suffering major embarrassment in high school over her weight, curvy girl Selina Wilcott locked her heart up and threw away the key. She solemnly swore that no man would ever get close enough to hurt her again. And that suited her just fine.

Until she got an invitation to her ten-year high school reunion. Short on time, she decides to enlist the services of Mads Olafson: professional escort, lion shifter, and a drop-dead sexy hunk. Soon, Selina is fighting against her inner desire to forego the ‘no sex’ clause in their contract and take Mads to bed!

Warning! This story contains a steamy relationship between a woman who owns her curves, and an alpha shifter male escort who will have her at any cost – even if it means his job!

About the Author:  Claudia M. Farwell loves to write – especially sexy romance. Her favorite writing pastimes include creating sweet, sexy guys with a secret furry side, and the girls who adore them. She has a special preference for cats, but is willing to branch out and explore all kinds of shifter styles.
She loves reading paranormal books, as well! Her Kindle is her best friend.

Claudia enjoys hot tea, watching the rain fall, and shopping for boots.

The cover is steamy and catches my eye with that big beautiful cat on the cover :)

This is a novella length HEA (Happily Ever After) story.  This is for adults only since it has some steamy content.

I was surprised at how much I liked this story because it did not have the action I usually like mixed into my shifter romances.  Claudia did a fabulous job with the intrigue and setting in the book that pulled me into the story where I couldn’t put it down.  I was sad to see the story end because I wanted more to see what happens next.  I loved and completed connected with Selina as a character, and Mads is just purrfect, and I would love to curl up with him ;)

Claudia as always does a fabulous job with her descriptions making this an easy read as everything jumps into focus like a movie in your head :)  This book is told from both main characters view, and the start of the chapter tells you who is doing the speaking and thinking so no confusion :)

I can’t wait to see where this series goes next and I hope I do not have to wait long to see it.  I also hope that Selina and Mads will still make appearances in the series :)

I recommend this story to any cat lovin’ shifter fans because I think you will like Mads :) especially if you are already a Claudia fan :)
